What Do You See?

I want to be one who looks at the heart. I believe we see people every day and never really see them. Think about the myriad people you encounter in your normal routine. What do you see?

The other day as my husband and I were praying together at the beginning of our day the thought came to me to pray that we would see needs in those we encounter in that day that we would have no way of knowing. It was a thought, a prayer, and I went on. Then that day at work I was talking with a client and as we talked I kind of mentioned off-hand a new product we had. I just mentioned that if she ever had...that we had something that could give her... She stopped and looked me in the eye and said "How timely." She had exactly the need that I mentioned and thought that sounded like the perfect solution. Several times over the next couple of minutes she repeated the phrase, "how timely." That was truly a God-moment in my day--a moment where God stepped into my conversation and worked to meet a need through me. He did exactly what I had asked earlier that morning. Because I opened myself up to be used of Him, He was able to reach into another's heart, see their need and use me.

These are the kinds of opportunities that we as followers of Christ are privileged to walk into. My job is not just a means to an end. It is a means to enrich another's life. It is a means to be Jesus in my workplace. My job has way more purpose than a paycheck every two weeks.

This is the kind of life I want to live every day, how about you? Do you, like me want to be one who looks at the heart? Whose heart will you have the opportunity to touch today? Will you look simply at the outward appearance or will you look deeper, into the heart?
