The Faith Walk

Faith is what pleases God. However, faith requires action. This, Abraham believing God and that faith making him right with God is based on Abraham's faith journey. God had told Abraham to leave his country and head out to a land God would give him.

Abraham set out for this promised land and along the way he is blessed abundantly by God. He has such great possessions that he and his nephew have to separate because there isn't enough room for them all in the land.

However, Abraham has no children and though God has said He alone would be Abraham's protection and his reward Abraham questions God. He asks God in essence, "why bother?" He has no children so his entire estate will pass on to his servant. God then gives Abraham an even greater promise than the land--He says, "Look up at the heavens and count the stars--if indeed you can count them. So shall your offspring be." Then comes the great faith statement--Abraham believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness" (Gen.15:1-6)

Abraham continues his faith walk, believing in God's promise even though he doesn't see its entire fulfillment in his lifetime.

If we want to be right with God we need to be walking the faith walk. Most of us like to walk where we can see our steps ahead.I have a terrible time walking down the stairs in our house in the dark. I find myself reaching forward with my foot making sure I'm feeling the next step. I hang on to the banister knowing if I miss a step I have something to keep me from falling.

In the walk of faith, God is my banister. What might that look like in your walk today? In what way are you holding onto a banister other than God? In what way might you let go of that banister and hang onto the hand God is holding out to you?
