Easter is in the heart. I read this verse this morning and like many verses that I know by heart, I know them by rote and it is easy to read without really reading. But as I read this I was reminded of the Roman Road. Do you know it?
Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." I have sinned. You have sinned. There is not one of us who can say we have never sinned.
Romans 5:8 - "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." God didn't wait for us to get our act together. Before we even cared that we had sinned against Him, He took care of it.
Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." We understand wages--we work, we get paid. We sin, we pay the price. We also understand a gift--it's something we get whether we deserve it or not. We get it because we are loved.
Romans 10:9--10 - "If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." ABC--Admit I have sinned and need a savior, Believe Jesus died for me and was raised to life again as the payment for my sin, Confess Jesus as Lord--boss, in charge of my life.
Romans 10:13 - "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." God has no favorites. There is no one who has gone too far down the road away from Him who He cannot or will not save.
