These hands belong to my son-in-law, Uriah and his daughter, Kenna. Is there anything more precious than a man treasuring his baby girl? As a child we believe our daddy can do anything. How many times have you seen a child say "catch me daddy!" then catapult into daddy's waiting arms never for a second wondering if daddy would indeed catch them? I still go to my dad and say "Dad, can you fix this?" Because daddy can.
Our heavenly Father wants to be that daddy to us. I know many of you didn't have that loving relationship with your earthly father, but that doesn't have to keep you from trusting in a heavenly Father's unfailing love. Human love fails as we are imperfect and flawed as the psalmist found out. When the prophet came to his father saying one of his sons would be anointed king over Israel his father left him out tending sheep. His father never expected that David, his youngest would be chosen. The psalmist David never expected to raise a son from whom he would one day have to flee for his life. David himself never expected to be the one who would orchestrate a man's death so he could have his wife. Yet he learned that though others fail and though we even fail ourselves, God never will.
David was in the midst of great anguish when he penned this psalm. He felt as if even the Lord was forgetting him. The words start with a cry to the Lord asking "why" and "how long." Then he moves to a desperate cry for help. And he ends with this declaration, "But I trust in Your unfailing love...I will sing the Lord's praise, for He has been good to me."
Trust in His unfailing love. Let your hand rest secure in the hand of the One who loves perfectly.
