Man #1: "No, she got historical. She brought up every single thing I ever did wrong."
Love keeps no record of wrongs. Women, I've gotta say we are probably the culprits here, more than men. Men tend to just say it and get it over with. Then it's done and gone. We women however, hold on to that offense; we let our feelings get involved and heaven help anyone who gets in our way. Maybe that's exactly what needs to happen. Heaven help us!
If we're going to love let's love well. Let's forget getting historical. Jesus, our example to follow in loving well had many haters in His walk here on earth. But what did He do? He told them like it was, then He said, "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings." He didn't back down from calling a sin a sin, but then he loved.
Another example was when the religious leaders brought to Jesus a woman caught in the act of adultery. They wanted her condemned. They wanted her to be killed according to the law. What did Jesus say? "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." And after they left one by one Jesus told her that since she had no one left to condemn her, neither did He and he told her to go a leave her life of sin.
How do these examples show that Jesus kept no record of wrongs? He knew the histories. He knew the hurts. He knew how they had all sinned against His Father, God. Yet he chose to love, He chose to not keep His focus on the wrong, but on the forgiveness. He showed in real time what was written in Psalm 103:12, "As far as the east if from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us."
Let's love well. Let's learn from history, not hold on to it.
