Happy Father's Day Dad

I was listening this morning to a Focus on the Family broadcast in which different guests they've had over time were sharing a tribute to their fathers and it got me to thinking. What is my favorite memory of my dad? The most powerful memories I have are of him praying. When us kids were growing up I remember every morning before school our whole family would gather in the living room to pray before we all went our separate ways. We each knelt down and prayed on our own, but my dad always prayed aloud. I remember hearing him pray for me, for my brothers. What a precious thing that is. That is something he has done throughout the years that I can always count on. To this day I know my dad is praying for me. I cannot tell you how I value those prayers.

I remember in Jr High and High School I had a friend who came home with me every Thursday night and spent the night at my house. Susie, do you remember those mornings before school where my family would gather for prayer? I don't think that's something your family did so I'm glad you had mine because I know my parents prayed for you too.

As I consider my children, now parents yourselves and the legacy you will leave behind in my grandchildren--I hope you are praying for your children in a way they will remember. I know your Papa prays for you and them as well. Kenny and Uriah, lead your families well. If your children look back on their lives and are able to say "My dad prayed for me," that will be their greatest treasure.

My friend, it is never too late. Begin now to pray for your children. Begin now to give them the greatest gift you will ever give.
