When it just can't be done on your own. David understood pain and struggle and hopelessness. David was on the run for his life, the people with whom he'd taken refuge had just rejected him. He and his men return home to find the entire town had been attacked and burned, their wives and children taken as captives. He and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep. His men began to talk of taking his life...and he finds his strength in the Lord.
When we are down to our very last drop of anything we too can turn to the Lord to find our strength to go on. As David turned to inquire of God, so can we. When God said "go" David did so, knowing that God would give him what he needed to endure.
Today may not be the day you or I are at our lowest, but today is the day to build our trust in Him. Today is the day to renew our strength in Him. I have found that when I am empty He fills me with what I have already tasted in Him. God's word says to taste and see that the Lord is good. When we taste His goodness by reading the Word and spending time listening to His voice that sustenance stays with us in the difficult times.
Do what David did. In Psalm 5:3, David said, "In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly." Another Psalm (42:1) says that as a deer pants for water so my soul pants for God. David also wrote that he rejoiced with those who said to him "Let us go to the house of the Lord" (Psalm 122:1). David saturated himself with God so that when he was in need the Lord was his strength.
