Be Intentional

"If you see your brother standing by the road With a heavy load from the seeds he's sowed And if you see your sister falling by the way Just stop and say, you're going the wrong way.

You got to try a little kindness, Yes show a little kindness.

Just shine your light for everyone to see. And if you try a little kindness..."

For some reason songs keep popping in my head about the scriptures I've been reading. This old song by Glen Campbell truly "gets" kindness. There are so many different ways we can love by being kind. But it starts with a kind heart.

Some days my heart is kind and some days not so kind. But that doesn't have to determine my actions, nor my attitude. I can choose to be kind and my emotions will eventually follow. Truly, our actions and words can convince our heart. If we choose to act in a kind way and choose to think loving thoughts we actually become a much kinder person.

Recently, I had a couple of my grandkids over to spend the night and as we were reading a Bible story we began talking about how that story could be played out in our lives. Kenna and Kaiden were quick to think of ways they could be kind to someone the other kids weren't being kind to. I love how they had a particular person in mind that they could show kindness to. Isn't this after all what God's word is all about--life application--putting His word into our life and living it out?

Who, in your sphere of influence could you show a kindness to today? What specific action will you take? It often takes more than simply thinking, "I will be more kind today." If we are intentional about showing kindness we will know we are acting in love the way God intended.
