There is so much about our Creator that I don't know yet. But it is my aim to get to know every facet of His personality as much as I, a finite being can. However, that is not where it stops. As I get to know Him better I need to take on that new characteristic I have uncovered. I need to become Him in this world. Take a breath, I'm not getting all mystical here. I'm not suggesting that I become God even with a little g. But Col. 2:9 does say that all the fullness of God lives in Christ and multiple places in the New Testament speak to Christ and/or God's Spirit living in us (Gal. 3:27, 1 John 4:13, 1 John 3:24 et al.). In this sense I am living as Jesus in this world.
How does this work in all practicality? The verses following give some characteristics we are to display such as tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. We are to make allowances for other's faults. We are to forgive anyone who offends us.
I recently heard from a person who used to work at Disneyland. Disney's are known for their extraordinary service to their guests. She mentioned that if you were a Disney princess from 8-5 that is who you became. From 8-5 you were a princess. You were not that person who left home in a huff. You were not that person who got cut off on the freeway. You left behind that argument you had the night before. You became a princess. I relate this to being Jesus in my world. As I get ready for my day I clothe myself with Jesus-wear. I choose ahead of the game that I will wear the pants of forgiveness. I will wear the shirt of showing mercy. I put on kindness as my jewelry. Gentleness will be my belt. Get the picture?
Now for anyone who knows me you know that I do not accomplish this every day. I have too many days that I walk out of the house with the sandals of selfishness instead of the shoes of generosity. Learning to know my Creator is the key to putting on the right pair of shoes on a daily basis.
So today I am going to start out simple. I am making a choice to put on Jesus-wear and see where that leads me. I will be that "Jesus" princess as I walk out the door.
